The essay is fundamental to literary criticism, and basic to assessment across your degree. The aims with this module are to: • develop your own writing and enjoyment of writing; • assess various strategies for constructing arguments; • locate and evaluate primary and secondary research material.

Having successfully completed this module, you’ll be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Appreciate different contexts and purposes for writing
  • Use independent and self-reflective judgement that is critical

The module will introduce students to principles of rhetoric, composition and discourse because they relate with their writing that is own and reading literary texts. It will probably engage with a range of texts, including classical and historical texts on rhetoric, historical and essays that are contemporary.

The module weekly allocation of two one-hour teaching periods is going to be used flexibly for lectures, seminar and small group i need help writing discussions. A selection of formative and summative writing exercises will undoubtedly be used, with a few micro-writing exercises and peer assessment exercises taking place in class times. This module includes a Learning Support Hour. That is a flexible contact that is weekly, made to support and react to the specific cohort taking the module from year to year. This hour will include (although not be limited to) activities such as for example language, theory and research skills classes; group work supervisions; assignment preparation and essay writing guidance; assignment consultations; feedback and feed-forward sessions.

College Level Reading and Writing:

A 2.7 High that is cumulative School will place the student in college level reading and writing, and therefore student will likely not require the Accuplacer for Reading and Writing.

Any GPA below 2.7 will still need the Accuplacer for Reading and Writing.

Students are strongly encouraged to create an appointment for the earliest session that they are able to attend. Practicing before you arrived at make the Accuplacer is a good idea.

CLEP & DANTES

A student must first purchase an exam voucher at the CLEP website in order to schedule an appointment for a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam. Double-check you are choosing the correct exam prior to making your payment. Once you save your admission tickets along with its number, call the Assessment & Testing Center at 413-236-1655 which will make your appointment for one regarding the dates down the page.

Please be advised you make on the website that you will need to pay a test administration fee of $30.00 to Berkshire Community College on the day of your exam; this fee is not included in the payment. This fee might be paid by check, cash, or money order only. We are an open test center, serving both our students and the ones from the greater community.
